WHAT HAPPENS WHEN TWO SELF HARMERS FALL IN LOVE?
Darren Francis’s ‘Cutting’ explores the taboo realm of self-harm with empathy and intelligence, allowing the reader to understand why somebody would resort to, and lose themselves in, a world of pain, razorblades and scar tissue, whilst never glamourizing the condition.
The story follows Daniel, a 32-year-old man who is unable and unwilling to stop self-harming. Living in London and attempting to get over a breakup with his long-term girlfriend, he spends his life going to work, partying with his friends and cutting.
On one fateful night at a party, he meets Cassie. With her long, red hair, tattoos and tell-tale scars, he falls in love. There is just one problem: Cassie is with another man. Together they try to navigate their current relationships, their pasts, and their mental health.
A dark, gritty and very human take on a modern-day love story.
